Cool

You're really good at making melodies and stuff. The drums sound a bit simplistic though. Some new drum samples would keep your songs from sounding like they all use the same kick, clap, and hat combo.

I have very little to say about this...

...because it left me completely speechless. This level of composition work just humbles me in every way and reminds my college graduate mind exactly how much I do not know. With that said, I will end with this; it's beautiful.

Very nice!

Awsome musicianship. I really enjoyed this one. Everything was mixed very and played wonderfully. I really enjoyed the sound effects and the "time running out" part and then... dead, game over. I enjoyed it. Excellent work.

Thank you.

Well you did say Happy was your specialty.

And this song certainly proves it without a shadow of a doubt. Composition wise, I find no fault in it whatsoever. Great variety in the melodies, Appropriately placed high and low points, great buildups and releases. You pretty much nailed it on the head there. My main complaint is in the mastering department. I think the synths should be a little more balanced. They seem to be competing for attention creating this kind of effect where the track sounds like it's gonna swallow itself whole, rather than working in symbiotic harmony with each other. But that's just a mastering issue specifically for the clarity of sound rather than the composition itself. So I will end this by saying excellent work overall.

Chimy727 responds:

haha this is good stuff here.
thanks a ton!
i have been getting a lot of mastering requests and i think ill do it soon.
some stuff i gotta trim out.
thanks again!

Pretty good...

You're right, this piece does play a lot in the game. Good thing it's actually good, otherwise it'd have driven me crazy. My only complaint it that the strings held over into the part at 1:20 and I wish they didn't. I've heard many people remake this piece (me being one of them) and the piano at that part seems to be a pretty popular option and sounds a lot better than what I chose. Good work.

Nice strong track but...

The snare is completely dwarfed by the other instruments. Everything else is so strong though. It's almost like a down-tempo trance anthem. I think it would sound much better with a clap/snare with some reverb behind it to go in place of the current snare. Plus, it gets kinda loud with some slight distortion at some parts and toward the end. So really the only things I would say to fix are the levels and the snare. Otherwise, this a powerful and very well written track. Kudos!

What's with ending?

It just kinda stopped. But the song sounds pretty good. Definitely brought back those Pokemon on the Gameboy days back to mind :). Not much going on here, but appropriately so. Good stuff though.

ModPlug Tracker bugs me, and I didn't want to re-create the last part =(

Very Nice

I didn't play this game enough to remember this song, but I really like what you did here. You say you're not pros, well you had me fooled. The quality is right on the money. Everything is clear, well-balanced, and sounds great. Top notch work here.

UnrealReno responds:

Thanks ^^

Pretty Cool

I like tracks with beats like this. The synths were appropriately sci-fi sounding with a nice, thumping kick. My only gripe would be the bass line is kind of lacking the punch the kick has. It's a great choice of a bass synth however; I just think it could be a bit more prominent when the other instruments are playing. But this is a solid track with a strong groove and an infectious sound. Great work.

ShadeRunner responds:

I thank you for your appropriate, mature, yet critical review. Most appreciated! :D

I gave it a 6. Here's why

I feel it's a bit chaotic and entirely too short. It feels like listening to an incomplete sentence on repeat. I don't have anything against loops. It's just there's too much going on to make any real sense. I would suggest balancing the levels a bit because the background chords sound kinda muddy. As far as the song, I'd also say another 4 bars wouldn't hurt either, but that would probably impede on your original vision of this loop. So with some minor adjustments, this can sound much cleaner (unless this is exactly what you envisioned, in which case leave it. It's your vision after all.)
